Explore

There are so many things to see, do and experience in our beautiful corner of the Pacific Northwest. Here are a few of our favorite places!

Waikiki-waves-crop.jpg

Cape Disappointment

Named for Captain John Meares’ first thwarted voyage to find the Columbia, Cape Disappointment is steeped in Northwest history. This is the place to explore U.S. military and maritime legacies and to experience the story of Lewis & Clark and the effect of their Corps of Discovery Expedition on Native American tribes.

Step into the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center for interactive exhibits. Find overgrown ruins of military bunkers and coast defense batteries, and hear tales of two lighthouses and the first attempts to reach the Columbia River by the ocean. (See more information)

Discovery Trail

The Discovery Trail begins at the Port of Ilwaco where you’ll find a brass sculpture of a California Condor spreading its wings. This sculpture commemorates a journal entry by William Clark, of Lewis and Clark, about a “buzzard of a large kind”. This is just the start of the 8.5-mile long hiking and biking trail named after the Corps of Discovery. Their journey ended here on the Long Beach Peninsula, and you will find several art installments and interpretive panels dedicated to their experiences along the trail. (View more information)

Long Beach Boardwalk

Grab some ice cream and stroll along the popular Long Beach Boardwalk that stretches for almost half a mile along the beach. With panoramic views of the Pacific and glimpses of the North Head Lighthouse in the distance, this boardwalk offers dreamy views of the Peninsula. The boardwalk offers interpretive displays as well as picnic areas and is just a short walk from downtown Long Beach. (View more information)
